Art in Nature Workshops
with Sandra Sabene
Art @Pathfinder Studio
Campers love creating at Pathfinder! The 4 acres of natural beauty include: Spring-fed pond, stream, wooded trails, wildlife, tree house, gardens, landscaped hillside and beaver dam.
This is not your average art camp!
Art lessons with Sandra. The schedule includes lessons and workshops taught by Sandra.
These are foundational nature study workshops which are designed for artists focused on learning how to draw and/or paint. An inspiring mentorship program for any budding artist!
Art Camp is an important element of building our studio community outside of school and family. This camp was created by the teens based on their feedback from previous camps. Fun and creative! They create art as much as they wish and have fun art adventures.
✔️ We create art based on being in the moment! And we learn. The product of art is part of an artist's progress and motivation to see, express, learn and let go of perfection. Not all art is pleasing to the viewer...and all art created was necessary to the growth of the artist....ALL OF IT!
Art camp inspire life-long friendships, deep connection and self confidence.

1. Camp Eligibility FAQ
WHO CAN ATTEND TEEN ART CAMP @PATHFINDER STUDIO & SANCTARY
How can I assess if my child is a good fit for this camp?
If your child is at least 13 yrs old and has a passion for creating art...with the ability to self guide their art making.
If your child has attended at least one art class at Liverpool Art Center.
If your child has a desire to attend an art making program.
Does my child have to attend art classes at LAC?
100%!! Please call the camp director if you have registered your child and you have not enrolled in the ongoing teen art classes. This has been exterely helpful for the comfort level of the campers over the years.
2. I'm not sure about over night or just day camp for my child. How can I decide?
If undecided about overnight camping, please discuss options with the camp director.
My child doesn't want to camp overnight. But I think that may change...
This is very common, so we try our best to accommodate. When day campers arrive on day one, we often hear them all discussing a change of heart as they feel more comfortable throughout the day. During camp we can only accommodate if there is enough space to add another overnight camper.
What are the accomodations like?
Pathfinder Studio has second floor bedrooms shown above in the pictures. There are 4 beds in the RV parked near the studio for additional space. These are not "posh" accommodations...it's a camp! But it's not tenting...it's glamping. The rooms are shared except for 2 small bedrooms (2nd floor studio).
Campers are asked to bring their own pillow and blankets.
2. My child is not an "outdoor" lover and feels some anxiety about attending camp...
How much choice do the campers have with the schedule and activities?
Our facilitation philosophy at camp is the same as LAC Studio: Everything is an invitation. We offer learning and coping tools along with art lessons and instruction, but if a student/camper asks to explore the arts in their own way, we encourage individualism. We create safe and brave space for all who attend. Campers can choose to remain indoors if the situation is safe and the group activity offers an indoor adaption. Campers may always choose to take their art journal to their room for quiet time to "re-group". When we leave for art adventures....all campers must go since our staff will all be going as well.
All campers have the option to call home or speak privately to the staff if there is any "issues".
Sometimes calling home is helpful. Parents are encouraged to follow up by calling the Camp Director's cell to ensure that the situation is safe, respectful of the camper's needs and if a pick up is needed. (315)440-2278
PLEASE CONVEY TO YOUR CAMPER: ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES AROUND THE POND: Not even in your pocket!
